success depends on the college you graduated from?
I was going through a list of MIT alumni. The most famous people from most fields are from MIT. eg ben bernanke, paul krugman etc... big companies like bose, cspan etc have been started by people who studied at MIT. I have never studied at top colleges, I am worried that I may not have what it takes to a level of success that I would want to--because I have not studied at a top college.
Do think the people who studied there were inherently smart, or the college taught them something amazing, something no other college teaches. What is your say?
Connections. While you might get the same or very similar educations from a top school like MIT and a state university, a degree from UF, holds no weight compared to a degree from MIT. As an employer, who would you rather hire? Someone from some random state college or the one with a PhD from MIT or Harvard or whatever?
Also, since these schools are so well established and have all of these successful alumni, where do you think all those alumni go to find employees or to donate to or to "hook up" their friends? Yep, the school they went to.
Although I sure there are many "successful" people that did not go to a top level university, or even one at all, it has to improve your chances in some way seeing how many did.
