So how does the Bose Wave Bass work? It’s a long complicated story with a lot of tech stuff, but we will try and give you the basic understanding. Loudness controls were produced to boost the bass as volume is turned down. But what it does is gives you that boom sound. The Bose Wave Systems are all about loudness not about boominess. One thing that Bose did was to only boost frequencies below 200Hz, and the other development was Bose's own series of compensation curves; most of the bass boost is between 40-60Hz, while the response above 200Hz is kept flat. This gives you that clear sound instead of that booming noise which you get from a lot of speakers. In fact one of the greatest things about listening to a Wave is the low to the mid listening levels. There is no need to jack the volume way up on these systems; you can get the perfect bass at a lower setting.
Another reason why the Bose Wave Bass is so loud but clear in these systems is because of the speakers. The speakers are unique in themselves. In the Wave you get two 2-inch drivers. The one on the left has just a little wider rubber surround then the one on the left. The left speaker has a matte dome. The right one has dust cap. They are not lined up exactly either. This is because they do not act like a pair, the left one is a full range speaker, and while the right one is for low frequencies. Only one speaker needs to produce full bass, and this is how the Wave speakers are hence clear loud bass.
