Connect Bose Acoustimass speakers to a Sony receiver (STR-DG800)?
Hi - I just got a new Bose subwoofer to go with my Accoustimass speakers. My old subwoofer would take speaker wire from the speakers, and then output speaker wire back to the receiver.
My new subwoofer takes speaker wire in, but has RCA jacks out to the receiver. Great, but I have no place to plug these in one the receiver (I thought I could plug them into the MultI Channel In jacks, but no luck).
Any advice on where I go from here? What kind of inputs am I looking for on a receiver? I'm trying to think of the other receivers I looked at and I can't think of any that had the inputs I'd need.
Any help appreciated!
/d
Let me just be sure we are on the same page since it seems you are using terms in a unique way. Generally when we speak of the input to the sub we are referring to it's input from the receiver and when we speak of outputs we refer to outputs to the speakers. Correct me if I am wrong but it seems you are using the terms backwards of this, with "input" referring to the sub's connection to the speakers and "output" its connection to the receiver. Bose is bad about using proprietary wire which has terminals on them which correspond to unique Bose jacks. Nevertheless, I am going to assume these are line level inputs on the sub rather than speaker level. I also hear you saying the sub has no speaker level input (from the receiver). I checked and that Sony receiver does have a line level subwoofer output on the back of it. What you will do is connect from the receiver to the sub with a subwoofer cable. Just plug it into either right or left input on the sub if it has more than one line level in. Then hook up your speaker wire directly from the receiver to the speakers. Be sure to set these speakers as "small" in the receiver's menu. They are not designed to handle the bass they would receive from a "large" designation and would probably be blown if you used them that way. Also be sure that your receiver's settings recognize that you have a subwoofer and that you want the LFE (low frequency effect) sent it only.
