Bose Companion 5....?
I just splashed out for a set of Bose's C5 multimedia speakers. I heard somewhere that it is a good idea to leave the speakers on overnight with the bass up full wack to break in the speakers before using them.
Is there any validity in this or is just getting a bit anal? Clearly, having just spent a shedload on them, I want them to last longer than the rubbish Altec Lansing ones that went tits up on me after 9 months.
You're just getting a bit anal here. You shouldn't have to "break in" good speakers. Bose themselves certainly don't recommend it. Like any car, just use them how they were designed to be used and they should last ages.
On the Bose-are-crap-and-overpriced debate, there is certainly some truth to the argument that you are funding their slick marketing more than their R&D when you buy their products. Their ghastly clock radio abomination is three times the price it should be, although having heard my brother's, I must grudgingly admit they sound alright.
There is also no denying that they suffer from the "Starbucks" effect - that of being targeted by ideological purists simply because they are the biggest and most conspicuous player in the market.
Ultimately, Bose make their products very easy for people to try out for themselves before they spend their money, in contrast to some of the stuffier manufacturers I could name. You pays your money.....
