I'm looking to buy a quality hi-fi system with a budget of around $800.?

I have Bose Wave in mind but most reviews said it's overpriced and there's something better out there for that price. Can anyone recommend any brands/model?

Thanks heaps! :)
I don't know anything about stereo/speakers etc so need as much advice as possible.

I live in a 1br apt so will just be playing CD/music at a moderate volume but would like to have quality sound as opposed to those crappy computer speakers I use at the moment...
Hey guys, thanks heaps for all the suggestions and recommendations! Like I said, I know nothing about speakers/stereo so there's a lot of homework/reading for me to do :) Really appreciate all the expert advice, you guys rock! Thanks so much!! I'll let you know if I have anymore questions.

Great question, Hope I can add a few cents...

I'd recommend getting a few systems:) - not just one.
Sounds like you are looking for products that has multi functions, compact, stylish etc.
$800 is a fairly large budget for something like this.

Here's the thing.
Walmart.com has a great deal on a clock radio.
I compared this one to my buddy's $300 sounddock portable [which is just a ipod player -no clock,no alarm, no display etc]... and this unit sounds better. We compared them side by side and even my buddy says it sounds about the same [before i told him how much i paid for it lol]

It's $24!!! LOL. at less than 1/10 of any of the Bose player prices, and has more functions, IT IS a steal. This will be perfect for misc. use - clock, radio, fully functioning remote, ipod dock, aux input and much more...

Then get a pair of GOOD computer speakers... that has AUX in - so it will play any source - TV, ipod, celphone, walkman -anything with a headphone jack*
Here's my recommendation - as I have it and I'm very satisfied.

These are the Audioengine A2 [$200]. They are small, compact and clean... but if you want louder and more flexible - then go for the A2's bigger brother: A5 [$350]

They have 30day return policy... as well, any Bose store gives 30day return policy too.
The above member is right. Let your ears decide. They will all sound good.
I'd suggest buying a bose radio... or better yet the Bose Acoustic Wave [$1100 only] and compare SIDE BY SIDE then keep only what you like.
I say test side by side, cuz sound is like colour.
The human brain is very bad at remembering a specific colour: as the environment changes alot of things: such as lighting conditions, time of day, even your mood will change your perception of colour. Sound is no different. One cannot remember how a sound system sounds like.

Hope this helps!
