Audio question. . . 320 KBPS vs VBR?
My mp3 player is the Apple iPhone 3g. My question as stated above is is there a difference between the 320 kbps quality versus the VBR quality. I'm trying to change all of my songs from the 177-178 kbps VBR to the 320 kbps. I have seen on forums that there isn't much of a difference, I don't care if the 320 takes up more space, I have gigabytes to spare on the phone. Sometimes I play it on my computer while hooked up, I'm using an X-Fi Sound Blaster Xtreme Music sound card with a 5.1 surround sound system. But, if I get high quality headphones (like the Shure 420/530 or Bose, etc.) will there be a difference between 320 kbps compared to 177 kbps VBR?
Not that you'll be able to hear - especially since you would be recompressing your 320 files (which will degrade them). If I were you I'd leave the 320 files alone and do future files as VBR (if you're worried about space)
