Help with simplifying my entertainment center?
I'm looking to consolidate most of my 'entertainment' items. All it consists of is a ps3, desktop, laptop, bose sound system, and cable box. I have one of those really old boxy tvs so i want to get a new tv.
What i want to know is if it's possible to hook everything up to one tv screen. If it is possible what size of tv would be recommended?
By the way my desktop is an old dell dimension e510 so i'm not even sure it can be hooked up to a tv or even a newer computer monitor.
I'm not sure about the Dell also. Leave it out of your plans for now. There are thousands of postings here about people wanting to make a killer entertainment system. Or at least a decent one. But you didn't say how much you wanted to spend. So, lets go with the obvious thing you should not do. Do not make the mistake that spending $200 at Walmart on a home theater in a box (HTiB) is the solution. If anything it will be a waste of money & not let you do much of anything b/c they are not flexible. They do not have the power, quality, or inputs to let you play all your toys. What you need is a receiver with a minimum of 4 HDMI inputs. A flat screen TV that is 32" or bigger that has a resolution of 1080p. Your PS3 will serve as the Blu-ray player for now. You can hook all that into the receiver and it will be a good match with the Bose speakers for now. As for the computers go, it depends on the video cards if they have out puts to other monitors. You can ask about that in the computer section. Here's a link to a decent receiver that is not too expensive & will be a entry level item: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158STDH520/Sony-STR-DH520.html?tp=179&nvpair=FFBrand%7cSony
I can go on for hrs & spend thousands of your dollars. But you have to do trial n' error on your own. It's how we learn what works in your house. Cheers!
