How can I insulate bare wires on my earbud headphones?

I have Bose earbuds - I think my cat got to them, but they still work perfectly. However, almost an inch of the insulation on one side, and a small hole on the other are missing. I want to insulate the wires. I'm hesitant to use electrical tape because of the adhesive mess it leaves after it comes off - I know i'll be using them a lot so I know it'll pull up - and due to the width of the headphones, and the adaptor on the other end, I can't get heatshrink over the wire that is small enough to actually shrink to the wire.

Go to Ace Hardware and buy some "Liquid Electrical Tape" it brushes on as a thick liquid and dries to a pliable rubber like coating. much better than electrical tape for your application.
