Bose or Sony Hi Fi? Which one would you recommend?

Hi,

I'm considering buying Sony MHCGTZ3I.CEK Mini System.

But I'm torn between this and Bose speakers. The Sony system is really good. But everyone says that Bose has really crisp sound and the clarity is unmatched. Do you think I will get the same punch from these Bose speakers:

Because they look small, whereas, Sony hi fi is really big.

I want clear sound, but I also want the punch, you know? I don't plan to play music like crazy loud. Probably not even very loud. But it should have balls and nails. It should feel like that the sound is filling the room, which you normally don't get from small speakers.

The funny thing is that the Bose speakers will probably cost more than Sony. :(

Anyway, Thanks. :)

Avoid Bose ... unless you want to pay lots for mediocre equipment. That said Sony aren't a great choice for speakers (very few Japanese speakers rate very high), but at least you won't be taken by Bose. Note that size isn't an indicator of sound quality. There are some very good small speakers and some terrible big ones ... it's really a question of what you prefer.

While a mini system might be what you need if it were me I'd look for a good used receiver ($100-$150 or so should get you something from Onkyo, Pioneer, or Yamaha) and add small speakers from Klipsch, Tannoy, KEF, Mirage, etc., etc. and you will pay less and get better sound than either Bose or Sony.
