If I plug right channel into a left channel speaker, and vice versa, does it matter?

So, I was drinking champagne with my sweetheart and installing "surround sound" (BOSE cinemate gs series II 2.1) behind a tv we have wall mounted (over our fireplace). In order to do so cleanly, we needed to wire this through two beams in our wall to hide cords. Holes drilled, tv back on wall, and I realize that the left and right channel plugs are crossed. In order to fix ill have to essentially do it all again (removing all our HDMI cords, Xbox, Wii, etc).

So, the left channel plug is in our right channel speaker, and the right channel plug is in our left channel speaker. Is this bad?

You should be able to connect the right speaker (as you are facing the TV) to the right output of the Bose unit...no? Is it some type of connector that has both the right and left in one? If so, you can experiment with it as is. With TV and music, it probably will not matter too much. With movies and games, it may matter as the other answer said.

If you don't like the sound as is, a good solution if you are good with wires is to cut the two speaker wires somewhere between the Bose unit and where they enter the wall. Then all you need to do is wire the right to the left and visa versa. This will involve splicing the two pairs of wires - pretty easy if you know what you are doing. Crude but effective.
