1993 Nissan Maxima?
I need to know how to put a completely new system in my car. I have a factory Bose system that is completely dead. The few audio techs that I have talked to, all said I will need to "gut it and install a new one". I need to do an amp bypass on the factory. Can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to install a whole new system in my car?? I've looked all over the web and audio techs want outrageous amounts of cash...
Please help!
It's actually far easier than people seem to be telling you. Here's why:
The factory amplifiers in your vehicle are attached to the factory speakers. Each amplifier has two signal wires coming into it that run directly from the factory radio. When you remove the factory speaker and amplifier, you can locate the signal wires and connect them to the new speaker. Then when the new head unit is installed, using an adapter harness for Nissan, the signal wires will become speaker wires.
If you want to do it yourself, start with the head unit. You'll need a standard Nissan adapter harness, as well as an adapter for the antenna. If your factory radio is a double-unit, with a separate cassette and CD player, then you'll need an installation kit or at least a replacement pocket to fit into the dash.
After you remove the factory radio, match the adapter harness to the factory plugs. The adapter harness wires should be labeled, so you can find the speaker wires and match them to the factory colors. Write down the (+) and (-) factory color for each speaker wire.
When you replace the speakers, you'll see a set of wires going to each factory amplifier. Simply locate the two wires that match what you wrote down behind the head unit, and connect these to your new speaker. Insulate the other wires so they won't short out, and leave them disconnected.
If I were working on this vehicle, I'd probably charge extra for bypassing the factory amplifiers, but not much more than $30-$40 or so (in addition to standard deck and speaker installation charges).
