I want to put a JL audio w7 in my car will the stock stereo support it?
I own a Nissan Altima with a Bose stereo system, I was wondering if the head unit will support a W7 JL audio 13.5 inch, or will I need to replace the head unit and the amplifier? Also I do not want to contact it directly I want to put it on a toggle switch so that I can turn in on or off.
Do I need to replace the head unit or will I only need to replace the amp. Or since I want to not connect it directly I just need a separate amplifier for the sub?
The head unit isn't the issue.
You will definitely need a powerful amplifier to get a sub like that to run anywhere near its potential.
Underpowering it won't hurt, but to get it to produce the type of output it's capable of you would need to have an amp that will produce around 1000w rms. On top of that the sub is a dual 1.5 ohm vc giving you an operating impedance of 3 ohms so to actually get it 1000w rms your amp would have to be well over 1000w at 2 ohms in order to give you 1000w at 3 ohms.
The Kicker zx1500.1 comes to mind.
