Shure E2 versus Bose in ear monitors?
i'm the lead singer in a rock band. i'm looking for in ear monitors that i can use both on stage and with my ipod. i also want to have some sound canceling (either passive or active) technology to help with the ambient noise when flying. i can't afford too much. the shure e2 and bose are about the same price. which do you recommend? any other suggestion for IEMs of similar quality for similar or less money?
I use the Shure E2s for both - bass in a band and my ipod. I can't say I know much about the Bose. I'm sure they're good, but I wouldn't change. Guitar Center also sells Ultimate Ears in ear monitor buds. They're a little more $, but worth it. The low end is better. The Shure buds are single driver speakers, while the Ultimate Ears and higher priced Shures are dual driver, one for lows and one for highs. The Shure buds don't really use any technology for noise canceling. They just seal off the opening with foam/rubber surrounds. The Bose does employ noise canceling technology, for what it's worth. I wouldn't use the Bose on stage. One tip - set up a crowd mic for shows. You can't hear them with the buds in, and you also almost have to read lips to talk to the other guys in the band if it's not through a mic. Save your money and buy the $599 wireless Shure PSM200 package.
