What surround sound system should I buy?
I am looking to upgrade from my 10 year old Kenwood theater in a box system. I do like the sound it produces and I've never had a problem with it. Problem is, I have nothing to compare it with to see what I may be missing. I also want it compatible with HD. I want a budget of $700 max (maybe a little more if worth it). I was looking into Bose Acoustimass 6 Series III with a Onkyo HT-RC230 Receiver. Then I need a Blu Ray player on top of that. That would be at the top of my budget. Question is, will a lower costing package sound just as great? If so, what brands/models?
You have nothing to compare it to? Well come on over and have a listen to one of my systems. No, seriously. Go to a shop that specializes in Home Theater (not the Bose Store) and listen to some of their systems. Bring a favorite movie and a CD. You'll probably be surprised at how much you are missing. As far as the Bose stuff goes, I'll restrain myself from posting a Bose - bashing diatribe but simply give you this link:

Read that and you should understand just how terribly overrated their Acoustimass systems are. Given that you are considering spending as much as one of those systems costs, you should be able to afford a good surround receiver and a set of nice speakers. As I said, go to a reputable shop that sells home theater gear and have a listen.
