Can a Bose 321 Series 1 Acoustimass be hooked up to a different brand receiver?
Trying to figure out a way to hook up a Bose 321 Acoustimass Series 1 to a Sony receiver to be used as a subwoofer for a friend. I've advised that this is probably not the best route if it is even possible, but they still want to try it. The input on the back of the acoustimass is the 15 pin proprietary cable. I've found a cable on ebay that is for an acoustimass 10, 15, 16 that has the same output, but I'm skeptical that it would work as it is for a 5.1 system where the 321 is supposed to be 2.1. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Is it possible? Probably if you want to go through the cable and "buzz out" the conductors and have the technical knowledge to do such a thing, but is it desirable? No. Not really. Jeffnjes.. is correct. It's not a subwoofer. It's a 7th order bandpass bass module. You'll get no low bass out of it but you will get lots of distortion. Bose works on the principal that if you give people a sparkly peak in the upper mid treble and a big, boomy, lump in a lower mid-bass they will interpret this as high fidelity. Apparently this works as most people have tin ears. No highs, no lows, must be Bose.
