Bose-Einstein Condensate?
What would be a good application for a sustained Bose-Einstein condensate? Please explain your answer; citations would be appreciated. Thank you.
PS: Interesting fact - When a bean of light travels through the condensate it goes only 30 MPH. You can actually see the light travel through the condensate.

An atomic laser.
As an ordinary laser produces coherent light, the coherent matter wave of a Bose-Einstein condensate is geared for use in a laser. Atomic lasers don't have many practical applications yet because light lasers outperform them.

to quote NIST
"the breakthrough could lead to a new technique for making extremely small computer chips. Eventually, such a device might be able to construct nanodevices one atom at a time."
to quote the MIT page
"there are many applications in fundamental research and industry where atomic beams are used, e.g., atomic clocks, atom optics, precision measurements of fundamental constants, tests of fundamental symmetries, atomic beam deposition for chip production (atom lithography), and, more generally, nanotechnology. ... Today, if you have a demanding job for light, you use a laser. In the future, if there is a demanding job for an atomic beam, you may be able to use an atom laser."
Mapping the magnetic fields of things (e.g. the Earth's magnetic field) to very high spatial resolutions using SQUIDs (superconducting quantum interference devices).
I can only quote the article for an explanation
"The researchers created their device by cooling a gas of rubidium atoms (rubidium-87) to a mere 50 nanoKelvin ... to create a so-called spinor Bose-Einstein condensate. This is a quantum fluid that manifests both frictionless flow, making it a superfluid, and also magnetization, as a ferromagnet. By taking repeated pictures of the gas and exploiting its magnetic properties, they were able to detect, within a quarter-second measurement time, magnetic fields as small as 1 picoTesla, 50 million times weaker than the Earth's magnetic field of 50 microTesla."
