What do you think is the best 2.0 PC Speakers?
I'm in need of new speakers for my pc and was wondering what do you think is the best 2.0 speakers out there? I'm looking at Bose companion 2 speakers but have heard very mixed reviews on it and I've heard them in person though I just don't know what all to be listening/looking for. I've tried a few other speakers (under $50.00) but they just sound too cheap.
Stay away from Bose. Awful stuff.
I would look at a pair of nearfield studio monitors. No silly Bose marketing designs with most of these - just simple but well made, two-way (woofer + tweeter) designs in well designed cabinets. What could be better than listening to music on the kind of speakers that they were probably mixed on?
I'd recommend 5" or 6" woofer designs, but some people prefer the extended bass response of 8" woofers.
At the very cheapest, I would look at something like the M-audio BX5a or BX8a.
Next up would be something like KRK Rokit 5s or 8s.
Anything from the Tannoy Reveal or Precision range.
Up another step, Adam A7 and Dynaudio BM5.
Then you can get into the really expensive, pro stuff. All of those would sound better than anything from Bose though.
Remember that speaker placement and room acoustics can also make a huge difference in the perceived sound. Standing waves can cause horrible peaks of 20 or 30db! A cheaper pair of speakers in a good room would probably sound a lot better than better speakers (maybe 10x more expensive) which are badly positioned in a bad room.
