how good are bose 301 series?
Descent, though I really think you can do better for the money.
If you are looking to buy new, I would suggest getting out and listening to Paradigm, PSB, Energy or Athena.
Bose is a company that feeds of the ignorant. They make medicore products and count on marketing to sell them. Some of their worst products are their cube speakers. Those thing are utter crap, especially for what they charge.
I must say they are doing a pretty good job. A lot of people around here see Bose and instantly think they are great. I often wonder how many of these people have even really heard Bose speakers. If their marketing is good enough to sucker people in blindly. I also wonder how many people that have Bose or have heard their speakers would continue the same tune after they heard speakers at the same price point. I doubt many would, I am sure there would be some stubborn people who wouldn't change their mind no matter what. I just have a hard time justifing paying the cost of their speakers when their cones are paper, freaking paper. Paper does not make a good cone. There have been so many advancement with synthetics that are much better than paper and not that expensive. Higher end speakers are actually using woven kevlar.
